ABOUT THIS MUSIC:
“Working with NJJO IX has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my musical career. We began our two-year stint with three things in mind: the process is more important than the result, the collective is more important than any individual and each musician should feel ownership of the artistic work. These young musicians have shown a maturity beyond their years, both musically and interpersonally. I can honestly say I am in awe of the generosity, presence and mutual support that this group embodies, on and off stage.
I am confident that these values are reflected in the music on this album. This is a highly varied bunch of songs, unified by the willingness to take the risk needed to create music on the spot and an unpolished, human and collective approach to music.”
Reinier
“This ninth edition of the Nationaal Jeugd Jazz Orkest presents a bold and distinctive blend of jazz, improvisation, pop and contemporary music, shaped under the inspiring artistic leadership of Reinier Baas. The result is a programme with a strong signature of its own, one that showcases just how much talent is flourishing in the Dutch jazz scene today. For 17 years, the NJJO and its Jazz in Action (JA) Foundation have been part of the journey for many musicians who have since built successful careers in the professional field. That continuity, edition after edition, generation after generation is something the board is genuinely proud of. We hope this music moves you as much as it moves us.”

NJJO
Since 2009, NJJO has been a home for young professional jazz musicians in the Netherlands. Every two years, a fresh ensemble comes together around new artistic leadership to develop repertoire shaped specifically for that edition, bringing existing work and new compositions together in a programme that is entirely its own. The NJJO's strength lies in that combination: high-level musicianship, changing artistic perspectives, original music and a deep connection to the professional field. A fully fledged orchestra and production house, it offers a genuine reflection of a new generation of Dutch jazz musicians and plays an important role in the development and visibility of jazz in the Netherlands.
