Guitarist Reinier Baas and saxophonist Ben van Gelder are prominent figures in the Dutch music scene, and long time collaborators. They have played over 200 shows together in the past years, performing as a duo, as a trio with drum legend Han Bennink and with both their quintets. Their joint efforts have resulted in a collaboration with the multiple Grammy Award winning Metropole Orkest entitled ‘Smash Hits’, which will be released in October 2018, as well as a duo record, which will be released in the spring of 2019.

BEN VAN GELDER TRIO FT. HAN BENNINK

Bennink Baas van Gelder“They played an insanely beautiful version of Body and Soul. During the encore, Bennink jumped from behind the drum kit to play one of his characteristic solos on the floor. The three radiated virtuosity and, above all, fun.” (JazzFlits).

BENJAMIN HERMAN’S BUGHOUSE

With Bughouse, Benjamin Herman fulfils a long-held ambition of bringing together his earliest musical influences: punk and jazz. ‘I’ve had this plan for years’, he says. ‘I just couldn’t find the right musicians.’ Following a meeting with Olav van den Berg – drummer in the legendary bands Lärm and Seein’ Red – it all fell into place. The line-up is completed by guitarist Reinier Baas and bassist Peter Peskens.

BAAS & BASILOVA

Duo-1

Russian-born concert pianist Helena Basilova and Dutch guitarist, composer and improviser Reinier Baas find common ground in their love for composers as diverse as Messiaen, Wayne Shorter, Gubaidulina and Ravel. In a surprisingly logical anthology, they combine the music of these great composers with works by the late Alexander Basilov – Helena’s father – and music by Reinier himself.
