Opus Kaleidoskopus out soon!

An extra special project is set for release on DoYouMind? Records on September 18th.

This is a collaboration between Reinier Baas and 16 of the most talented, young musicians based in The Netherlands, aged 18-26. It showcases a wildly varied, but surprisingly coherent collection of music that is tailored to the band.

This project is a celebration of the ninth iteration of the NJJO (Dutch Youth Jazz Orchestra). It will be released on vinyl (12” gatefold), with artwork from NJJO’s own Irene Caumel.

Pre-orders are welcomed now in the shop (best for iDeal) and at our Bandcamp. Vinyl will ship August 15th. T-shirts and lino prints will ship immediately!

“Working with NJJO IX has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my musical career.

We began our two-year stint with three things in mind: the process is more important than the result, the collective is more important than any individual and each musician should feel ownership of the artistic work.

These young musicians have shown a maturity beyond their years, both musically and interpersonally. I can honestly say I am in awe of the generosity, presence and mutual support that this group embodies, on and off stage.

I am confident that these values are reflected in the music on this album.

This is a highly varied bunch of songs, unified by the willingness to take the risk needed to create music on the spot and an unpolished, human and collective approach to music.”
