Starting this friday at Lantaren Venster in Rotterdam, The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble will embark on a huge tour of Holland’s finest venues. And, technically, Belgium. A large part of this borderline ridiculous amount of dates will be double bills with the horn, guitar and percussion trio Kapok, with whom we combine forces for this year’s edition of the Young VIPs tour. My second album is out on vinyl, a collaboration with Positive and Focused Records. Get the 180 grams black vinyl or the limited edition coke bottle green one at the shop (includes digital download card).

De Volkskrant included us in their top 10 jazzalbums of 2012, deeming us the ‘hippest and most exciting jazzband of the Netherlands’ (!). Also, I had an interesting interview with cultuurbewust.nl (Dutch). Lastly, I’m happy to announce that we’ve been selected for the Young VIPs tour 2013. More information to follow soon.

I’m proud to announce the release of my second album, ‘Mostly Improvised Instrumental Indie Music’. It’s available at the shop as of immediately in all sorts of formats, designed to fit your auditory and/or visual needs. Yet again, it features Ben van Gelder and Maarten Hogenhuis on alto, Sean Fasciani on bass, Mark Schilders on drums and myself as the guitarist and composer. Order here!

On November 18th, we will host an enormous release party at the very famous Bimhuis in Amsterdam. It will involve pyrotechniques, extensive choreography and catering based on Chinese macrobioticism. Don’t miss out!

Ramón Valle quartet in Colombia and Venezuela

I am currently touring South America with the Ramón Valle quartet. This international assembly features Omar Rodrigues Calvo on bass and Owen Hart Jr. on drums. Besides the intoxicating tocando piano increíble sensual mantequilla croquetta varadero beach de Ramón, our trip involves a lot of flying and a few attempts at dancing salsa. Two days ago, we played in Cali (see picture below). Tonight we’ll play in the beautiful neighborhood La Candaleria in Bogota.

North Sea Jazz Festival

The More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble will perform at this year’s edition of the enormously esteemed North Sea Jazz Festival (July 8th). Other steps toward fame and fortune include a performance at the ToneJazz Festival (May 26th), which will be recorded for VPRO radio, and a performance at Jazzfestival Middelburg (May 27th). Also, we’re working on our second album, which will be released in November of this year. It’s bound to be one of our best so far. More details to follow soon!
