Extra special grand tour of Earth tour diary

These past few months, I have been travelling the globe. Like a globetrotter.

First stop this summer was the ridiculously beautiful island of Crete, where I performed with the mighty Joris Roelofs and learned how to drive a car. Upon Crete with Joris Roelofsgetting back, I had the honour to play with Han Bennink and Ben van Gelder at the Concertgebouw and with Harmen Fraanje and Martijn Vink at the Grachtenfestival, as well as performing with Floris van der Vlugt’s illustrious Windkracht 7.

Next up was Japan with Japan with TMSRJMEThe More Socially Relevant Jazz Music Ensemble (!). We played in Fukushima, for victims of the great east Japan earthquake, and in Yokohama for a thousand medical doctors, that knew all about medicine. We had three days off in Tokyo. People are still talking about it.

Straight after, I went to Austria and (subsequently) Italy for rehearsals, a show and two days in the studio with Peter Lenz and his new quartet, featuring Chris Speed and Stefan Lievestro. The music that Peter has written is challenging, peculiar and Peter Lenz, Chris Speeds, Stefan Lievestrobeautiful, unlike anything I’ve ever played or heard before. More about the record as soon as it’s out.

Next, I’ll be visiting the horrible, boring city of New York for a whole month. I’ll be looking for a new instrument, taking some composition lessons and jam with all the heavy cats. Also, I’m writing new music for our Smooth Jazz Apocalypse 7″ vinyl release party in Splendor, Amsterdam on October 23rd.

Coming up later: a tour of Belgium and the UK with Bright Noise, a German / Belgian / Scottish / Dutch collective featuring tenormen Ben Bryden and Steven Delannoye. See Concerts for more information.
